Inflammatory Foods- why ditch them?

April 29th 2023

Have you ever heard of inflammatory foods? They are foods that can cause inflammation in your body, which can lead to health problems like headaches, joint pain, and even diseases like diabetes and heart disease. But don't worry, there are ways to reduce inflammation in your body by removing these foods from your diet. Here are some benefits of doing so:

Better digestion: Inflammatory foods can cause digestive problems like bloating, constipation, and diarrhoea. By removing these foods from your diet, you can improve your digestion and feel more comfortable after eating.

Clearer skin: Inflammatory foods can also cause skin problems like acne, eczema, and psoriasis. By removing these foods, you may see improvements in your skin's appearance and health.

More energy: Inflammatory foods can make you feel tired and sluggish. By removing them from your diet, you may have more energy to do the things you love, like playing sports or hanging out with friends.

Better mood: Inflammatory foods can affect your mood and cause mood swings, anxiety, and depression. By removing these foods, you may feel happier and more positive.

Lower risk of disease: Inflammatory foods can increase your risk of diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. By removing them from your diet, you can lower your risk of these diseases and stay healthier for longer.

So, what are some inflammatory foods that you should avoid? Some common ones are sugary drinks and snacks, fried foods, processed meats, and refined carbohydrates like white bread and pasta. Instead, try to eat more whole foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein.

Removing inflammatory foods from your diet may not be easy at first, but it's worth it for the benefits to your health and well-being. And remember, it's okay to treat yourself every once in a while, but moderation is key. Eat a healthy, balanced diet most of the time and enjoy the occasional treat in moderation.

See below for more on the Healthy Living and Beyond programme I guide clients through each month that is focused on whole food eating, avoiding inflammatory food groups and refuelling our body with incredible nutrition for a set period of time. This is all about creating sustainable, long term healthy habits for life.
